Exceptional Student Education
The school is responsible for providing services to students who are eligible for the following exceptional student education (ESE) programs.
The Exceptional Student Education program provides students with disabilities or students who are gifted with in and/or out of classroom support. Our philosophy is that a child with a disability should be served in a least restrictive environment. This consist of a regular education classroom with as much interaction with his or her non-handicapped classmates as possible. A child with a disabilities should only be removed from the regular education classroom when the severity of the disability is such that the student is not able to achieve satisfactorily, even with the use of supplementary aids and services.
Sawgrass Bay Elementary has five VE (Varying Exceptionalties) Teachers, four Self Contained VE Teachers, two ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) Teachers and one Resource Teacher. The five kindergarten through fifth grade VE teachers work within the regular education classrooms with the regular education Teachers to provide extra support. The Self Contained classrooms consist of a kindergarten through second grade room, a third through fifth grade room and two pre-kindergarten rooms. Please visit the VE Teachers on their web pages to learn more about their grade levels.
