Dear parents and guardians                                                                           20 August 2012

We welcome your son or daughter to the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) program at Eustis High School. The mission of the AFJROTC program is to "Develop Citizens of Character Dedicated to Serving Their Nation and Community ". Our objectives are: to instill values of citizenship, community service, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment in our high school students/cadets. This is not a military recruitment class and there is no military service obligation for taking this course. Course material includes leadership (to include drill & ceremony), topics from Aviation History (AS-I) to Survival, and health/wellness training. Classes may have guest speakers and/or go on field trips related to the subject material.

Please note that the all cadets are required to wear the Air Force uniform one day each week (normally Wednesday). Your son/daughter will be issued an Air Force uniform after the first week of classes. The Air Force uniform is loaned to each cadet but there is a $20 lab fee to cover final professional cleaning and some incidental items that the Air Force does not provide. We need to collect this fee by the end of the second week of class to expedite uniform issue. If there are financial issues with the lab fee please contact either instructor or have your son/daughter meet with them. Wear of the Air Force uniform is a critical part of the class. The cadets must wear and maintain their uniform according to military regulations, (including appropriate haircut/ hairstyle). Cadets are expected to abide by appearance standards beginning the second week of classes. Failure to wear the uniform regularly and maintain appearance standards will result in removal from the class. Lost or damaged uniform items may result in a charge to the student. Replacement costs range from $10.00 for a hat to over $290.00 for the entire uniform. Strict inventory control will be maintained at issue and turn in at the end of the term. Final grades will be withheld for students failing to turn in all the uniform items or pay for replacement of damaged/lost items. Their names will also be placed on the school's debt list, this may affect their ability to be issued textbooks for future classes or participate in extracurricular activities if not cleared.

Sergeant Young and I are enthusiastic about being able to provide this opportunity to your

son/daughter. We welcome and encourage you to visit our classroom and outside drill exercises at any time. Additional information about the program and class information /assignments may be found on the AFJROTC page of the EHS website. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns at 357-4147 ext 1447. Thank you for your support of the Eustis AFJROTC program and your child's education!
