Attending a new school and moving up the ranks can be somewhat frightening for students. To help alleviate some of the anxiety that students and parents may be facing due to the changes for the upcoming school year, many Lake County Schools are hosting student orientations and “Meet the Teacher” events before Monday, Aug. 20, the first day of school.

• East Ridge High, 13322 Excalibur Road, Clermont — “Keys to the Kingdom” Freshman Orientation Program is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Check-in will begin at 8 a.m. in front of the cafeteria. The program will begin at about 8:30 a.m. in the auditorium. Upon check-in students will be assigned a “student mentor” who will take them on a tour of their new campus. Available at the orientation will be students’ final schedule, PE uniforms available for purchase at $15 each (cash or check payable to East Ridge High School), and textbook distribution will be held in the media center. • Lake Minneola High, 101 N. Hancock Road, Minneola — Returning students (10th-12th grade) can pick up their issued iPad on Tuesday, Aug. 14, from 3 to 6 p.m. or Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. Students are required to bring their student ID. Returning students may purchase a new ID for $3, or $5 with a lanyard. A legal parent or guardian is required to attend and sign the user agreement in order to pick up the iPad. A photocopy of parent’s/guardian’s driver’s license or other government issued photo ID is required. A copy machine will be available if needed. For the $30 iPad User Maintenance Fee, cash or money order is accepted (no checks). Students will also set up their e-mail account and pick up their schedules. New students can pick up their issued iPad on Thursday, Aug. 16, from 3 to 7 p.m. Students will leave in groups of 25 for iPad orientation, followed by a mini campus tour.
