For immediate release -- Aug. 14, 2012

Take Stock in Children of Lake and Sumter Counties has been selected as a Community Foundation of South Lake (CFSLC) funded partner for the second consecutive year.

“The award of $4,000 will be used to provide a two-year Florida Pre-Paid Scholarship to one deserving student in the South Lake area,” said Carman Cullen, Executive Director of the Educational Foundation of Lake County. “The CFSLC is not just an important funder but a valuable partner in connecting us with the needs of youth in South Lake.”

The commitment of Take Stock in Children and the Community Foundation of South Lake mirror each other on the focus of improving post-secondary educational opportunities for students in South Lake County.

Take Stock in Children, a program of the Educational Foundation of Lake County, identifies financially at-risk students in the eighth grade, provides them with a mentor and an advocate and then rewards them at high school graduation with a college tuition scholarship.

Take Stock in Children staffing is funded by the state, and the program operates in all 67 counties in Florida.

Local money raised for scholarships are matched 100 percent through the project STARS program, thus doubling the impact on the community.
