For immediate release -- Aug. 15, 2012
Take Stock in Children of Lake and Sumter Counties has been selected as the proceeds recipient from The Rotary Club of Tavares’ annual dragon boat race. This is the fourth year Take Stock in Children has been selected to receive the proceeds from the Central Florida Dragon Boat Festival (www.cfdragonboat.org).
Several teams from throughout Central Florida battled the white capped waters of Lake Dora to compete for the coveted “paddle trophy.” At the end of the day the real winner is one deserving student at Tavares Middle School who will receive a college tuition scholarship.
“The award of $4,000 will be used to provide a two-year Florida Pre-Paid Scholarship to one student at Tavares Middle School,” said Carman Cullen-Batt, Executive Director of the Educational Foundation of Lake County.
Take Stock in Children, a program of the Educational Foundation, identifies financially at-risk students in the eighth grade, provides them with a mentor and an advocate and then rewards them at high school graduation with a college tuition scholarship.
