Welcome to the Lake County Schools Home Education Webpage. Here, you will find all the information you need to establish and maintain a Home Education program in Florida.
What is Home Education?
A Home Education program is not a part of the school district. It is registered with the district school superintendent to meet the state's attendance requirements under s. 1003.21(1).
Important Information for Parents Interested in Home Education:
Overview: Home education is an alternative to traditional schooling. Parents take on the roles of teacher, guidance counselor, ESE specialist, and school principal in the home education environment. It's essential to know that Home Education is entirely parent-driven.
Getting Resources: Lake County Schools does not provide books, curricula, materials, or laptops. Parents are responsible for obtaining these educational resources independently.
Diploma and Certificates: Students in the Home Education Program will not receive a high school diploma or certificate of completion. Parents need to explore alternative pathways for their child's educational achievements.
A signed affidavit of completion, as per the requirements of s.1002.41, F.S., is the legal document of completion. It is equivalent to a high school diploma and is recognized by state colleges and universities.
